What Is A Raspberry Pi?

Raspberry Pi (Ras Pi) is a credit card sized single board computer that was first developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It was created with the intention of promoting the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing countries.

The Ras Pi has become the industry favorite for running bitcoin nodes.

The Ras Pi has several connectors including HDMI, USB 2.0, audio jack, and a GPIO header. It can run a variety of operating systems including Linux, Android, and Windows 10 IoT Core. It can also be used as a desktop computer, Media center, Digital signage player, IoT device, etc.

Raspberry Pi 4 8GB

In Bitcoin, the Ras Pi 4 8GB is most commonly used to run an array of different bitcoin nodes. The Pi4 is well suited to meet the demands of running a bitcoin full node on a dedicated computer.

The low cost, as well as the high technical specs, make it a perfect fit for running bitcoin nodes as well as an electrum server along with a number of other open-source apps that are available in multiple app marketplaces.

Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3

Not only are Ras Pis popular for running bitcoin nodes but they are also the board of choice for the popular bitcoin wallet and transaction signing device, SeedSigner.

The Pi Zero 1.3 is the only Pi that doesn’t have any any wireless connectivity of any kind. There is no Bluetooth, WiFi or NFC which makes it an obvious choice for a completely air-gapped bitcoin hardware wallet.
